Yea guys, it’s that time of the year when we get treated to a host of new gadgets as the IFA 2016 begins in Berlin, Germany. The week long event is usually an exhibition of new consumer electronics ranging from new phones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches and other day-to-day gadgets.
This year, we expect a whole lot as always and we’re looking forward to announcements from Sony, Samsung, Apple, Asus, Huawei, to mention a few. To get into the thick of things, we begin with the official announcement of the Sony Xperia XZ and Sony Xperia X Compact today.
After being the centre of a lot of leaks over the past weeks, we finally see what Sony has been brewing. The new X-series which had started its debut earlier this year with the Xperia X Performance, Xperia X Ultra and Xperia XA, gets 2 new additions to its growing team. Here’s a quick look at what both phones are on about:
This is indeed Sony’s Flagship of the year as you’d confirm from the specs in a bit. Coming in a revamped design with curved and rounded edges, as well as the use of a new alloy metal finish (gives it this glossy look behind… maybe slippery too), Sony indeed made a beauty out of the XZ.
Here are it’s features:
•5.2in IPS LCD 1080x1920p screen @401ppi
•2.2GHz Quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU
•3GB RAM, 32GB ROM expandable via microSD to 256GB
•23MP main camera with LED flash, phase detection, OIS, and a new triple image sensing technology for better low light pictures. Upfront, we get a 13MP wide selfie camera for indeed grand selfie shots.
•Single/Dual SIM support
•Fingerprint scanner on the side
•USB Type-C port
•Dust and Water resistant
•3D Surround Sound speakers
•Android OS 6.0 but scheduled for upgrade to Android OS 7 Nougat
•2900mAh non-removable battery offering up to 2 days of use due to improved energy consumption and saving modes.
No official prices have been made available, but expect flagship pricing north of $750 and would ship from October 23, 2016.
